– currently employed in a data analyst, machine learning or AI role, AND
– pass a Koans style test to ensure you meet prerequisites for the projects

Back in university, I had pursued a degree in Mineral Engineering from the University of Toronto but soon realized in my later years that this career path wasn’t quite the right one for me. Although I did enjoy the critical thinking, problem solving and math and technical skills required, I just didn’t have an affinity for the industry like the rest of my peers. Looking to fast track my career after wasting so much time and further pursue a career in data analytics, I stumbled upon data science and 1000ML. The program stood out to me from the other competitors in the market due to the practical elements of the curriculum which valued experience and project over theory and lectures which is something that I struggled with previously in university. Having gone through the program, I felt well prepared for the work force and eventually landed a data science role. Although I do feel out of my elements at the time, 1000ml has equipped me with the skills and thought process to tackle any new problems/domains that might come my way and has taught me how to perform in a professional manner.

After graduating from my STEM degree, I found myself unsure of what career pathway I should pursue. For someone that did not have a cookie-cutter educational background, finding the right program was a challenge until I learned about 1000ml's Residency program. With the emphasis on creating a portfolio and having real-world data projects, the 1000ml program was the perfect opportunity for me to gain the right knowledge and experience in the field. There, I made great friends with like-minded individuals that supported one another during projects and continue to do so in each other's future endeavours. I found that the instructor's and founder's vast knowledge in the data world was a key component in me successfully breaking out into the field. My time at 1000ml helped shape my vision of where in the industry I fit and gave me the much-needed experience and knowledge to confidently step into my new role as a data professional.
